Žmonija neturi daugiau priešų apart savęs pačios. Visos nelaimės kyla dėl žmonių kvailumo. Mūsų nuostabus ir turtingas pasaulis griūna dėl pernelyg intensyvios žmonijos veiklos, kuri šiuo metu yra nepakeliamai didelė – tai demografinio sprogimo pasekmė. Tuo tarpu žmonijos vadai, pretenduojantys būti jos protu, bando gydyti šiuos negalavimus didindami ekonomikos intensyvumą.Mokslas ir technologija XX amžiuje pasiekė nepaprastas aukštumas. Rodos, turėjo būti pasiektas visuotinis gerbūvis, išspręsti visi klausimai. Tačiau pasaulis krizėje, ir problemos nesprendžiamos, nes pasenusi filosofija nemato arba nenori matyti esamos padėties.

Išvengti ekologinės katastrofos kovojant už “aplinkos išsaugojimą” neįmanoma, kadangi nei žaliųjų akcijos, nei vyriausybių veiksmai nėra nukreipti į gilumines krizės priežastis, jie stengiasi pašalinti tik simptomus, panašiai kaip bandytume gydyti AIDS, tepdami jodu atsivėrusias opas. Iš esmės ekologinė kova vyksta su begalinėmis pasekmėmis, o priežastis viena – demografinė. Ištrauka iš JAV vyriausybės ataskaitos: “Nekontroliuojamas miestų augimas gresia katastrofa, jei nebus išspręsta užimtumo ir resursų problema”. Priežastis įvardinta, bet kovoti siūloma su pasekmėmis, t.y. pragyvenimo resursų trūkumu. Todėl kova atsidūrė aklavietėje, tai tas pats, kaip kad Miunchauzeno savęs traukimas už plaukų iš pelkės.

Katastrofa artinasi vienu metu iš visų pusių: okeanų užteršimas ir išsekinimas, požeminių vandenų užteršimas, miškų žūtis, dirvožemio erozija, atmosferos užteršimas, klimato pasikeitimas ir vandenynų lygio pakilimas, ozono sluoksnio ardymas ir tt. Globalinės ekologinės krizės mastai rodo į fundamentalias jos priežastis, o tai reikalauja fundamentalių sprendimų.

Iš esmės mokslininkams paprasčiausiai nepakanka intelektualinės drąsos – netgi patiems sau – įvardinti artėjančios katastrofos priežastis. Jie kažką neaiškiai lemena apie “tamsiąsis progreso puses”. Tikrumoje tariamas “objektyvumas” tarnauja tam, kad būtų galima paslėpti tikrąsias krizės priežastis. Vyriausybės ir intelektualai nenori prarasti savo padėties visuomenėje, nes tam reiktų paminėti labai nepopuliarias priemones. Todėl yra kalbama apie “pernelyg greitą populiacijos augimą” ir niekada nepasakoma “pernelyg didelis žmonijos skaičius”. Savas kailis brangiau už tiesą.

Taigi, kodėl problema užtušuojama? Kodėl nekalbama apie žmonių skaičių? Bet nėra labiau aklo už tą, kuris nenori matyti. O nenori todėl, kad tai “delikati” problema. Pasakius “a” reiktų sakyti “b” ir atsidurti Maltuso pasekėjų tarpe.

Milijonus metų nebuvo perpildyto troleibuso efekto. Jis atsirado todėl, kad mes sugriovėme natūralius augimo reguliatorius. Visos stichinės nelaimės, epidemijos, karai nėra Dievo bausmė. Tai natūralūs žmonijos augimo reguliatoriai. Ir labiausiai paskatino augimo procesą gamybos augimas. Galima paklausti, kodėl tada labiausiai žmonių skaičius auga neišsivysčiusiose šalyse, o turtingose netgi mažeja? Reikalas tame, kad neturtingose šalyse auga gamyba. Skaičius paprasčiausiai neaugtų, jei neaugtų pagaminamo maisto kiekis. Bet kur Afrikoje ar Brazilijoje žmogus, turintis duonos kąsnį šiai dienai, gimdo vaikus ir mes matome ten audringą žmonių skaičiaus augimą. Kita vertus, europiečiai, žiūrint mūsų akimis, gyvena turtingai. Bet jie neturi daugiau vieno – dviejų vaikų, jų akimis žiūrint būtent dėl materialinių sunkumų – kitaip jie nesukurtų savo vaikams pakankamai aukšto pragyvenimo lygio.

Taigi, žmonija plėšosi, bandydama išspręsti savo ekonomines, ekologines ir politines problemas, dėdama viltis į ekonomikos augimą, vietoj to kad sustotų ir pasuktų atgal – sustabdytų ekonomikos augimą ir sumažintų žmonių skaičių, protingai reguliuojant gimstamumą. Tam reikalinga visiškai nauja progreso filosofija. Apie kokį mokslinį požiūrį į tai galima kalbėti, jei prezidentas Klintonas pareiškia: “Reikia stabilizuoti žmonijos augimą” (o viceprezidentas, ekologas Goras jo nepataiso). O juk stabilizuoti tai reiškia išlaikyti tokį, koks yra dabar – padvigubėjant skaičiui kas 50 metų! Manau, kad tai nėra netyčia netiksliai pasakyta: jie vengia netgi mintyse įvardinti tikrąją padėtį.

O reikia, kad valdytų protas, kad protas nulemtų populiacijos dydį, nelaukdamas kol nelaimės perstums augimo vektorių į priešingą pusę. Tik tada, kada protas vietoj nelaimių pradės reguliuoti populiacijos dydį - tik tada žmonija pereis į kitą lygmenį – nuo gyvuliškų biosferos dėsnių prie protingo savireguliavimo.

Humanity has no enemies apart from itself. All misfortunes come from people's stupidity. Our amazing and rich world is crumbling because of hyperactivity of man as an outcome of the population explosion. Meanwhile, the powers that be pretending to be the intelect of the human race, attempt to cure this malady by raising economic intensity rate.

Science and technology have reached extraordinaty heights in the XX century. Social welfare was supoosed to be attained, all issues solved. However, the world is in crisis and problems appear to be unsolvable. This is because the outdated philosophy omits or refuses to note the current situation.

Ecological catastrophy is impossible to avoid by struggling for conservation. Both green campaigns and acts of governments are not directed towards the core of the crisis. What they are actually doing is eliminating symptoms,just like trying to treat AIDS by applying iodine onto open sores. Principally struggle for conservation carries immense subsequences, while the only existin reason for them is demographic. Quoting a report of the USA government : Uncontrolled growth of our cities threatens with a catastrophy unless the problem of employment and resources is solved. Although the reason has been specified, it is suggested to fight the consequencesm i.e. lack of resources necesary to maintain a certain standard of living. This is how the problem comes to a dead-end. This equals Muenhausen's endeavor to pull himself up from the swamp by his own hair.

A catstrophy is approaching from all sides at the same time: drain and pollution of the oceans, polution of underwater, decline of forests, soil erosion, change of climate and ocean level rising, depletion of the ozone layer etc. The rage of the global ecological crisis indicates its fundamental causes, calling for fundamental solutions.

In fact scientists do not have the intelectual courage to name the causes for the coming tragedy. They still keep mumbling about the dark sides of progress. In reality the bogus objectivity serves to conceal the true core of the crisis. Governments and intelectual establishment are reluctant to lose its status in the society for taking extremely unpopular measures. Therefore superfast population increase is discussed, never mentioning population oversize. One's hide is dearer than the truth.

So why is the problem kind of being smothered? Why the number of people is not under debate? The most blind is the one who refuses to look, defining the problem as sensitive. After the first step is made, the following ones would turn you into a Maltus's follower.

There hadn't been the overcrowded bus effect for years, until we destroyed the natural regulation of growth. All disasters, epidemics and wars are no penintence of God, but natural regulation of population growth. The growth process that was triggered by the growth of production. A question may arise, why then the population is incresing in the underdeveloped countries, while the process is even reverse in the rich ones. As the matter of fact, production is increasing in the underdeveloped countries. The increase of food production conditions the population growth. Anywhere in Africa or, say, Brazil anyone having enough of daily bread bear children and we are observing the dramatical population growth. On the other hand the Europeans consider themselves well-off. Still, material difficulties are thought to prevent them from having more children for fear that they would not be able to provide for considerably high standard of living.

The human race is in plight sorting out its economic, ecological and political problems, hoping for the growth of economy instead of halting and turning back to stop the growth of economy and reduce population by rational birth control. A completely new phylosophy of progress is required. There is nothing scientific in president Clinton's attitude It is necessary to stabilize the population growth (discarded by Gore, the ecologist). After all stabilizing means retaining the same current rate - doubling every 50 years! I guess that was not a mere slip of the tongue. He avoided to enlight the actual situation even mentally. Reason should reign and reason should determine the size of population, otherwise disasters will change the balance of growth into negative. Only when reason prevails over disasters as a regulating factor, humanity will transit into another level - from animal laws of the biosphere to sensible self-regulation.
